Debt and Luxury: Lessons from Economic History

The Legacy of Living Standards in the Empire ?

A Luxury legacy that is an increase in living standards in a market-based economy!!

We got into this pickle (Pun intended)

After World War One/Two, when women.

I am not being sexist.

It is a simple historical fact.

Women held a more homestead-based role,

With men as the household’s primary income earner.

a man washing the dishes in a luxury kitchen

The rule has many exemptions from the bottom to the top of society

Including Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.

The ” Land Girls”

During and after WW 1-2

Women had to step out of the homestead and into the roles of men!!

This freedom If you will?

Was

The straw that broke

The Social expectations

of a woman’s economic output.

Leading to the equal rights movements

The right to vote

Have a voice

And

Earn an independent income.

After the war

The debt accumulated was equivalent

to the same level of debt as the economy

Currently owes.

i.e. bankrupt!!

(Soon, the world economy will be bankrupt based on the borrowing of a few)

This time,

We are funding a global standard of living.

That is only affordable

by accumulating

100% of national and global debt.

To subsidise

The standards of living

Yearly increase.

The grand solution to all this

Look for the same cheap labour that fueled the Western Industrial Revolution.

By importing cheaper goods from third-world and/or developing countries.

The ironic fact is that the manufactured goods are made with the very same fossil fuels.

We are claiming to have banned!!

To keep the carbon offset economy booming!!!

The solution

Lowering the cost of manufacturing by using all available resources efficiently

fueling the local economy and saving the environment.
